The history of Cleo is almost a mirror image of German history over the same time period. The foundation in 1945 can be seen as symbolic for Germany's rebirth after the Second World War.
Throughout the 1940s and 50s Cleo's development reflects the strong desire, work ethic, and performance of German skilled workers and entrepreneurs. Cleo is also representative of the socialist economic policy since it was nationalised and then highly specialised on a single product that was successful at home and in export markets, the Skribent.
Following Germany's reunification and Cleo's reprivatisation the company has become well established in various sectors of the writing instrument industry. We produce whole series for third party manufacturers and also market our own range of instruments and sets on a worldwide basis.
These balanced efforts combined with our specialist experience and skill, particularly with regard to toolmaking precision and nib finishing, enables us to look forward with optimism and confidence to a long and successful future producing writing instruments in the Prignitz region.
Despite the current difficult economic climate we are enjoying a period of encouraging growth in both domestic and international markets. Cleo has achieved its current position as a result of its high quality and high value products. We will continue to invest in both of these aspects since we have no shortage of drafts and plans for the future.
